Recycling

Aluminium is 100% recyclable. There are no limits to the number of times it can be recycled, and the process requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce primary metal.

Over 6,000 aircraft will reach their end-of-life in the next 25 years, at a rate of around 300 aircraft per year. Alcan Global Aerospace’s response to its customers’ needs also encompasses materials recycling. We are pioneering methods that allow the optimized recycling of aluminium alloys – by alloy type – found in commercial aircraft when they reach the end of their service lives.

In our plants, we are able to rough machine components in-house, thereby keeping more metal in the closed-loop recycling system. In the framework of an agreement, our customers return the fabrication scrap resulting from their manufacturing processes.

The holistic closed-loop aluminium recycling system of Alcan Global Aerospace reinforces the position of aluminium as the material of choice for aerospace applications. It includes also the newer Low Density Alloys, containing among others Lithium.

Our work on an enhanced recycling process for the industry is helping to address both economic and environmental challenges, maximizing the value of the metal while reducing its environmental footprint.
